Building services make buildings work. Service and Maintenance Engineers play a key role in planning and completing a range of maintenance work, encompassing industrial and commercial building services engineering systems such as: Ventilation, Heating, Water supply, Waste (effluent discharge) and drainage, Related electrical isolation, disconnection, reconnection and reactivation
Monitoring and managing the operation of plant and equipment through building energy management systems.

The work involves completing planned preventive maintenance and remedial repairs to building services systems and equipment.

The Building Services Engineering level 3 Standard is for candidates who want to be able to service and maintain building services systems and equipment in industrial and commercial buildings, working with a high level of autonomy.

The apprentice will also be able to carry out maintenance (planned and reactive), testing, commissioning and de-commissioning of the above system types, with the ability to liaise and communicate with other trades, clients and supervisors during maintenance operations and procedures.

Assessment

Highly qualified, industry experienced and professional Tutors and Assessors will assist and teach you through a programme of coursework, which is both technical in the classroom, supported with practical skills in the workshop. They will support you with collecting evidence from the workplace for completing your record of achievement, using offline and online content to help draw out the knowledge, skills, and behaviours to prepare each apprentice for the end point assessment at the completion of this course.

Your learning journey will be tracked and monitored using performance trackers and regular reviews and action plans by both your Assessors and Tutors, with feedback both to yourself and your employer. This will ensure that your apprenticeship journey is both enjoyable and successful. The course will be delivered to you in a professional manner supported by all the college staff.

End Point Assessment

The end point assessment is synoptic, and takes place at the end of the apprentice’s learning and development. The requirement is that the end point assessment is completed within three months from the start of the end point assessment period. The end point assessment is made up of the following components:

  • A multiple choice test
  • An interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
  • An observation with questions

Each organisation will have their own entry requirements, and must be able to provide opportunities to work towards this apprenticeship as part of the job role.

Apprentices must achieve Level 2 maths and English, prior to starting this programme.
