Outline
Information Communication Technicians (ICTs) play a crucial role in maintaining and optimising IT and telecommunications infrastructure across various sectors. They ensure efficient system performance, whether through on-premises hardware or cloud-based services, supporting business operations and decision-making. Their responsibilities include preparing for new services, managing regulatory standards, maintaining security, and monitoring system performance. ICTs use infrastructure management tools to automate provisioning, testing, deployment, and system monitoring. They provide technical support to internal or external customers, troubleshooting routine and complex issues to enhance productivity and user experience. Tasks may involve installing and configuring systems, diagnosing faults, and resolving connectivity or access issues, either remotely or in person.
ICTs specialise in different roles, such as Support Technicians, Network Technicians, and Digital Communications Technicians. Support Technicians handle user queries and system faults in a helpdesk environment, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations. Network Technicians may work remotely or on-site, setting up and maintaining network infrastructure in institutions like universities or businesses. Digital Communications Technicians focus on communication systems, playing a critical role in sectors such as defence, telecommunications, and banking. Their work may involve securing classified information, integrating customer solutions, and maintaining core and mobile radio networks. Regardless of their specialisation, ICTs must prioritise tasks, escalate issues when necessary, and adhere to service level agreements to maintain operational efficiency.
