Outline

A Leader in Adult Care will guide and inspire teams to make positive differences to someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional, psychological or intellectual challenges. They will be a leader of the care team and will develop and implement a value -based culture at a service or unit level. May also be responsible for business development, financial control, organisational resilience and continuity as well as for managing risk and leading organisational change.

On completion, the apprentice will be able to:


Carry out the tasks and responsibilities of the role including developing and applying systems for compliance


Champion dignity and respect of diversity inclusion and fairness, develop and lead a culture which values courage to challenge workers own cultural and belief systems


Communicate policy and guidance so that all are able to understand, develop and implement processes to ensure written reports are clear concise and kept safe preserving confidentiality


Implement systems to train and support colleagues to recognize and respond to potential signs of abuse and or unsafe practice following policy and procedure, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of systems policies and process for safeguarding


Lead the implementation of policies procedures and practices to manage safety and risk for compliance with legislation and standards, implement health and safety and risk management policies to create a culture that values health and wellbeing in the workplace


Monitor, evaluate and improve health, safety and risk management policy and practice. Apply evaluated research and evidence-based practice, research and disseminate current drivers in the sector


Lead by example understanding the impact of own behaviour, create a supportive culture, recognising the skills of team members and individuals, adopt a team approach.


On completion, the apprentice will know and understand:


The tasks and responsibilities expected from the role including: statutory frameworks , standards and guidance underpinning practice for safe service delivery, systems and processes to ensure compliance including health and safety and risk management, principles of risk management, assessment and outcomes-based practice, principles and theories of change management, legislative and regulatory frameworks informing quality standards, theories and models underpinning performance and appraisal


Legislation and policy initiatives on the promotion of ED&I in the service led, legal and ethical frameworks and local solutions in relation to confidentiality and sharing of information, tools and strategies enhancing communication


Legislation, national and local solutions for the safeguarding of adults and children including reporting, and the elements needed to create a culture that supports whistleblowing


Models of monitoring, reporting and responding to changes in health and wellbeing


Principles of professional development having goals and aspirations that support own development, creating a culture that values learning, planning sourcing accessing and recording team professional development


Theories of management and leadership and their application to adult care settings, features of effective team performance


Consistently show care, compassion, courage, communication, competence, commitment

Assessment

Elements of learning can be face-to-face tutorials by visit or remote digital means, may be directed study and research. Learning in the workplace via practical demonstration, shadowing, instruction, or simulation or by way of courses and reflection

Assessment methods may include Q&A, work products, observations of practice, witness accounts, recognition of prior learning

 

Mandatory qualifications

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care
  • Functional Skills Level 2 in English (unless previously achieved)
  • Functional Skills Level 2 in mathematics (unless previously achieved)

 

End Point Assessment

The end point assessment must be taken over the maximum of two days and the apprentice must have a minimum of two and a maximum of four weeks preparation time following gateway – any preparatory documentation/presentation should be shared with the EPAO prior to the observation.

Entry Requirements

  • English and maths at level
  • Apprentices must be in suitable employment, in a managerial role but also have the opportunity to develop all required knowledge, skills and behaviours aligned to this apprenticeship standard
